Shooting Was Fabulous

Hello Melissa,

We are back and packing for Florida for the winter but I first wanted to thank you for all your help on our trip to Argentina.

Even though the travels got a bit challenging, thanks to you everything worked very well. Alex picked us up in BA, sped us through customs and got us to the domestic airport in record time. Believe me all of us were glad we had you and Rod and Gun Resources back home to help us.

The lodge was wonderful and having Peter as our host was a special treat. Shooting was fabulous.

We will be returning.

Thanks again.

It Was Superb

Melissa,

I'm remiss in not thanking you sooner for the great job that you and the Rod & Gun staf did to arrange for our recent bird hunting trip to Argentina (Joe Carson group leader).

Everything you did and had prepared us for was right on target. The trip was virtually flawless once we got to Buenos Aires. Also, thank you for being able to shift our trip schedule by an additional day in order to accommodate our unforeseen American Airlines cancellation.

In addition, we felt Sierra Outfitters did a superb job and we were especially impressed with Christian Druetta and his staff. The accommodations were exceptional and the meals were outstanding. To say the least, the hunting was exceptional. Everything was beyond our expectations and we felt the money we spent was a really good valule.

I would certaily recommend this trip to any prospective bird hunters.

Thank you again for your help and I hope to again use Rod & Gun sometime in the near future.

Well beyond my expectation

Dear Mr. Gregory,

My recent trip to Argentina was outstanding! The accommodations at the Los Ombues Lodge were very nice. Carlos Sanchez was a wonderful host and the duck, perdiz, and dove shooting were all well beyond my expectation.

Yours truly,

Gerry Nichols

The dove hunt that afternoon was outstanding

David Gregory,

I wanted to let you know that our trip to Uruguay was great. We had a wonderful time and everything went smoothly. We want to thank all of you—especially Melissa—for making sure the trip met our expectations. There were changes in the airline schedules and Melissa worked extremely hard and long hours to get our tickets changed. Many, many telephone calls--THEY WERE APPRECIATED.

Alberto called two days before we departed and said it had been raining and to bring boots. The area was really wet, but it did not interfere with our hunting. It did not rain much while we were there and we were able to make all of our hunts. Alberto recommended we take the charter flight from Montevideo to Mercedes as you had suggested. We did take the charter and everyone was glad we did. Saved a lot of time after flying all night. I would recommend this to other groups.

At Alberto’s, we got to shoot doves on Wednesday afternoon, Thursday afternoon, Friday afternoon, and Saturday morning. Most of the hunts were superb, although one was poor because it was very windy. We hunted perdiz two mornings and both hunts were very good. Everyone enjoyed the perdiz hunts. Food at Alberto’s was outstanding. He really does a good job with the meals.

The transfer from Alberto Regusci to Bernardo Barran went smoothly. The highlight of the trip was the decoyed pigeons at Bernardo’s. This was our first time to get to shoot pigeons over decoys and we really enjoyed the hunts. We shot pigeons on Monday morning and afternoon and then Tuesday morning before we left. Greg Stewart and I shot 173 pigeons Monday morning, 155 Monday afternoon, and 222 Tuesday morning. The six of us shot over 1300 in the three hunts.

The first afternoon dove shoot was not great, but good. The perdiz hunt the next morning was great and the dove hunt that afternoon was outstanding. Food and hospitality was great.

We had a good time and will be talking to you about going back next year. Hope your vacation was enjoyable. Take care.

The hunting was fantastic

Dear David,

Judy and I thoroughly enjoyed our recent trip to Uruguay and Argentina.

Hasparren and Patria Chica were outstanding in every respect—gracious hosts—fine people—wonderful food—nice accommodations—excellent hunting.

The trip was well organized and easy to do.

No questions about it, the hunting was fantastic.

At Hasparren each hunt resulted in about 50 points of perdiz using nice Brittanys and English Pointers. Dove hunting was outstanding, with one being able to shoot as much as desired—having a few pigeons mixed in with the dove also made the hunting especially interesting.

At Patria Chica the duck hunting was really good, with one being able to obtain 50-100 ducks per hunt. Dove hunting was non-stop shooting and pigeon shooting also was good.

I would be more than willing to recommend this trip to anyone, and I would have to say was one of the better bird hunting trips we have ever been on.

I want to thank you and the others at your company for the outstanding recommendation, service and help.

As discussed with you, if you decide to go to Africa, please let us know, because we would like to go on this type trip.

Very truly yours,

Edward L. Benson

The birds just never stopped flying

Dear Sir,

I just returned from my sixth bird hunting trip to Argentina and it was such a success that I want to share my experience with your readers.

Our party of five departed Dallas on July 20, on American Airlines and arrive in Buenos Aires via Miami the next morning. Carli Pradal of River Plate Wingshooting was on hand in the customs area to assist us with our gun permits that are now issued at the BA Airport.

Our gear was loaded into their large Fiat van and we were off to the Entre Rios Region, about 180 miles (three hours) north of Buenos Aires. The main town in this region is Gualeguay where we were met by Luis Brown, our host. I have to say Luis Brown and his staff made this trip. Luis is a American-educated gentlemen, a scholar (MBA Wharton School) and a professional commensurate host. His staff, who are mostly Brazilian, have been with him for years. They all willingly cater to your every need.

After a typical steak lunch at the local parilla, we were off to shoot the renowned Argentina eared dove. The dove shoot was a “melt down.” Between 3:00 and 5:00 p.m., everyone shot at least 20 boxes and some shot more. WE were lined up along a fence line hidden from view by brush. The birds just never stopped flying. We were supplied with ample shells, a seat, and drinks. The bird boys picked up the birds after the shoot so as not to disturb the onslaught. My Benelli Super 90 finally started jamming and one of Brown’s staff had it broken down and cleaned in 10 minutes. Nice service!

Our accommodations were at Estancia El Rincon. This was a beautiful Argentine mansion, with seven bedrooms, lovely living areas and with blazing fireplaces. The home was full of fine antiques and the dinner table was set as fine as any top restaurant. The food was excellent and professionally served. There was an open bar and plenty of fine Argentine wine. I was impressed.

The next morning, we were up at 4:00 a.m. for breakfast. Continental or full breakfast was your choice. Then off for a 45 minute drive to shoot a variety of Argentine ducks. Brown has a policy of giving six boxes of shells for ducks which allows for some serious action. After a ten minute boat ride, we were dropped in prepared blinds made of reeds. We were provided with stools and rested in 2 feet of water. Decoys were out. At first light the ducks started in and didn’t stop. Each of us shot from 30 to 50 30 ducks, mostly rosy billed pochard and varieties of teal. Fabulous hunt!

We were back at the vehicles about 10:30 a.m. Lunch was a classic Argentina mixed grill, with the addition of veal scaloppini sandwiches, fruit and chocolate pound cake. Beer, wine and soft drinks were available. Brown had air mattresses for us to snooze on. Van rides were never much more than an hour.

After lunch, we switched gears for a perdiz hunt. Brown provided three handlers with one Brittany, one German Shorthair and one Pointer. These Argentine-bred dogs were world class, hunted close in and hardly missed a point. We hunted in pairs and one single. All of us limited out (15 plus birds) in an hour and a half. Brown had warned us that this was not one of his better fields!

By 3:00 p.m. we’re back for our dove shoot.

The following three days produced the same pleasing results. Our last duck hunt was actually the best of the four, some of the hunters more than doubled their previous count. Lunches were classic Argentina asados of grilled duck breast, steaks, ribs, fettuccini, salads and pastries and more.

If you are looking for a three-bag (ducks, perdiz and dove) Argentina hunt, you need not look any further than Luis Brown and River Plate Wingshooting. I cannot recommend this group any higher. They are top drawer!

As always, we had fine service from River Plate’s booking agents, Rod & Gun Resources of Kerrville, Texas 800-211-4753. I have to thank David Gregory of Rod & Gun for turning us on to this best hunt to date!
